Description:

Learn about how cowboys of African American descent created our image of the Wild West in this moderate hike.

Bring an open mind and join our rangers in a moderately strenuous hike along the Rojo Grande, Sunflower, and Juniper Cliffside Trails (Approximately 2.5 miles roundtrip). Participants will get the chance to experience the world of the Wild West that Black Cowboys like Nat Love created trough the stories they told, and the lives they lived.

Things You Should Know:

  • Meet: At the Rojo Grande/Sunflower Trailhead; just past the Fortress Cliff Campground.
  • Bring: Comfortable walking/hiking shoes or boots (they will get sandy), 1 liter of water per person per mile, and weather appropriate clothing (jackets, etc.).
  • Cost: Included with admission to the park. Park admission is free with a Texas State Park Pass (purchased before event).
